AFL Offers To Help Clubs Sell Poker Machines

The AFL (Australian Football League) is set to help it’s clubs sell off it’s poker machines in an attempt to assist the clubs generate revenue from other sources and to free some of the clubs from debt which is associates with their attempts to grown their gambling businesses. The AFL is often seen as an organisation which is a leader within community development and with the upcoming legislation that is about to be introduced by the Australian governement for mandatory precommitment technology to be introduced to all poker machines by 2016 this is seen as a potential cost saving move by the AFL.

Andrew Demetriou has publicly spoken and offered the services of the AFL to all of it’s clubs to act as a broker for any potential sale or leases of pokie machines which are currently in those clubs. While this will certainly benefit some clubs who have over extended themselves financially to introduce pokie machines into their premises, other clubs such as Hawthorn, Collingwood and Geelong who make a larger portion of their revenue from pokie machines may not be so welcoming of this offer. It is currently estimated that AFL clubs in Victoria own around 2000 machines which equates to approximately 7% off all licensed machines in the state.
